Rolls-Royce Phantom

When Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled the Rolls-Royce Phantom in 2003, it heralded a new era for the brand, proudly takes its position at the forefront of automotive design and engineering.

The work is a maxim of its founder Sir Henry Royce - "strive for perfection in everything you do" - and the design team has spent four years developing this innovative model. Using the latest technology, inspired by the rich heritage of the company, their goal was to cut: develop 21 st century, Rolls-Royce, which would be truly worthy of the famous Spirit of Ecstasy.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

The result was the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Built on a new state-of-the-art factory in Goodwood, this flagship Rolls-Royce secured its revival by combining the spirit of his ancestors celebrated with advanced technology and technology visionary.

Design

Creating a strong identity for the Rolls-Royce Phantom was important, says chief designer Ian Cameron: "Our priority was to create a car that was obviously a Rolls-Royce from any angle, even if the Spirit of Ecstasy and the grid could not be famous to be seen. "

To identify this core essence, the design team immersed themselves in the brand and its history. It highlighted the elements of classic style, a long bonnet, wide C-pillars and discrete windows, all of which were incorporated into the design of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Its powerful, permanent and dynamic, rising profile also unmistakable Rolls-Royce.

However, advanced features like an aluminum frame and single motor gasoline direct injection pioneered leave no doubt that this is a car in the forefront of technology.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

Exactly the same can be said about the unique coach back doors, which are evidence of advanced technologies available in the entire Rolls-Royce Phantom. Hinges on the back, they allow rear passengers in and out of the car free of charge and can be closed with the touch of a button.

The interior of the Rolls-Royce Phantom is clean and contemporary design simplicity belying the technology under. The controls are not necessary for everyday driving are kept out of sight until needed. The multi-media, for example, is hidden behind a rotating panel in the center of the dashboard, which normally shows an analog clock round. This apparent simplicity extends to the operation of controls as well: even the very sophisticated audio system can be operated with a single button.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

A feature of Rolls-Royce Phantom, and in particular how the most advanced technology combines with traditional crafts by hand to produce something extraordinary. Switches, power windows and audio system are beautifully crafted 'violin keys', while Chrome vents operated by "organ stop" traditional. In conjunction with the use of best leathers and wood veneers, it is this fusion high technology and craftsmanship that gives the interior its unique and luxurious feeling.

Engineering

The essence of Rolls-Royce Phantom is a sophisticated, lightweight aluminum space frame - a single platform and advanced specifically designed by the team of engineers from Rolls-Royce experience to provide a refined and implemented to drive.

Built from more than 200 three-dimensional box of aluminum profile extrusion blown Rolls-Royce Phantom is the rigidity of a

Formula 1 car. Entirely by hand, using about 120 meters of welding, the frame is finished as if it were a precision instrument: Each is controlled by laser to ensure accuracy in a fraction of a millimeter. The frame is placed on a platform of computer-guided machine - the largest car industry - at the critical points are machined with unprecedented accuracy.

Without the need to provide structural support, the panels of Rolls-Royce Phantom bodies are simply placed on the chassis.

Made of lightweight aluminum and composite materials, which adds a minimum weight of the car. Only the boot is made of steel, designed to facilitate 50/50 weight distribution so desirable for perfect handling.

Rolls-Royce Phantom is a lightweight and rigid provides the basis for the extraordinary dynamic capability. This is an excellent handling - enthusiastic drivers will appreciate the precision with which can be placed on the road - but not at the expense of travel that is as quiet and comfortable as you might expect, the Rolls-Royce. Space Frame also helps to eliminate noise, vibration and harshness, to promote the tremendous calmness and tranquility of the Rolls-Royce Phantom interior.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

The extraordinary integrity of the spatial structure of aluminum also offers significant advantages of security, which provide excellent occupant protection. But this is not the only area where safety is integrated into the design of Rolls-Royce Phantom. The location of the rear seat behind the pillar C, for example, is inherently safer than the traditional position next to the door and deny the need for rear side airbags. In a collision, so the effect is progressively absorbed by crumple zones designed to dissipate the force through the chassis and underbody. Of course, Rolls-Royce Phantom has been designed to pass all current safety laws.In addition, Rolls-Royce Phantom contains a number of safety systems using the latest technology and to guide the

Intelligent Safety and Information System (ISIS). ISIS takes readings from sensors located in different parts of the car, and the event of a collision, will make up to 4000 calculations, the second to establish its severity, and before the use of airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, or necessary . ISIS works in conjunction with other security systems installed by Rolls-Royce Phantom, including Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Traction Control.

Conduct

In the heart of the Rolls-Royce Phantom is the 6.75-liter naturally aspirated V12. Designed specifically for the Rolls-Royce Phantom and hand assembled by Rolls-Royce technicians, this sophisticated engine develops a massive 720 lbs-ft of torque, 413 lb-ft available at 1,000 rpm. On the road that leads to an instantaneous power, muscular, bearing the Rolls-Royce Phantom from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Maximize traction extraordinary Rolls-Royce Phantom V12, a six-speed transmission with automatic electronic control helps to achieve a transparent and effortless progress for which Rolls-Royce is famous.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

Rolls-Royce Phantom offers a unique passenger experience, but many owners have suggested that the best place to sit behind the wheel. The view from the driver's seat is elevated along the bottom of the field hat Spirit of Ecstasy is the most inspiring in motor sport, while beautifully crafted, thin steering wheel rim is a pleasure to hold and provides immediate feedback on the wheels. Despite its size, Rolls-Royce Phantom excellent dynamics and are easy to precisely position when cornering. Intoxicating and yet extremely relaxing, it offers a driving experience of purity and precision.

The exterior finish

Surprisingly modern and immaculately proportioned, Rolls-Royce Phantom is a car of extraordinary elegance. Matching the beauty of its exterior design is a mirror gloss lacquer, shows great skill in painting technicians Goodwood. Five coats of paint and varnish is applied to all Rolls-Royce Phantom - seven if it's a two-tone car - and between each application, our technicians sand the body by the hand. After the last coat was applied, the body is hand-polished for five hours to give a finish unmatched depth and luster.

There are 15 standard exterior colors that the customer can choose, although up to 45 000 different shades available in the custom program. In accordance with Rolls-Royce tradition, single or double lines can be determined by coach. Two subwoofers are in resonance chambers 16 liters in the space created by the plant of Rolls-Royce Phantom double, while a combination of mid-range 100 mm and 25 mm tweeter arrays are in the front and rear doors , and on the platform above the dashboard. The result is a "sweet spot", a sound that encompasses the entire interior, giving the perfect surround sound experience from anywhere in the car.For entertainment again, the configuration of the theater added two screens of 12 inches set in the tables in the back.

These screens are connected to a six DVD changer, and also allow viewing of digital television, the limitations on market conditions. In combination with the Lexicon audio system, this option may make any trip to Rolls-Royce Phantom a truly cinematic experience.

Ability

Only the best materials are used in the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Leather and fine wood veneers are hand-selected by experts from our skin and wood workshops - to ensure not only that they are of the highest quality, but have adequate aesthetic features into the Rolls-Royce Phantom. They are then carefully prepared for its natural beauty and quality inherent shows the best way possible.

Each skin is carefully inspected by hand to identify any gaps. 450 shares cutting leather cut using a precision laser, first carefully sewn by hand.

Three different types of leather are used: the natural grain of the seats and trim, pre-shrunk in the sunlit and released (in relief) in the center console and door panels to provide an interesting variation. The process of a barrel of dye usedto color the skin gives a richer and uniform pigmentation throughout the skin while preserving the natural softness and grain. There are 13 standard colors, but many more are available through the customized program.

According to the specification, up to 43 pieces of wood are used in every Rolls-Royce Phantom. Each is constructed from up to 28 layers of wood, interspersed with thin sheets of aluminum to provide strength and prevent the collapse on impact.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

The wood veneer used comes from sustainable forests and chosen for their richness and complexity of the grain. There are six standard veneers, including walnut and maple Birds Eye, but no number is available through the customized program. Whatever your choice, customers can be assured of a high quality finish. Craftsmen, many taken from the yacht-building and

Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Step

In 2005, the ghost was joined by a longer model, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase, which provides additional space for rear passengers while maintaining the beauty of the standard Phantom and his class of first driving performance and comfort of each of the four occupants.

To create the Phantom Extended Wheelbase, was an additional 250 mm added to the back seat behind the B-pillars. The extra length is achieved simply by using longer overhangs in the construction of the space frame, which was developed specifically to allow long wheelbase models. Consequently, no torque loss, Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase retains not only the powerful look of the standard car, but its outstanding performance and refined driving dynamics. The only major need for new parts is a new aluminum roof and door panels - and thanks to Goodwood flexible production processes extended wheelbase Phantom will be built next to the Rolls-Royce Phantom without problems.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

The interior of the wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended offers plenty of additional space and are particularly suitable for the inclusion of features to measure - for example, a wall of privacy of passengers. 2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost Review

Rolls-Royce Ghost is the most powerful car that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has produced. However, Rolls-Royce power is delivered very differently to other cars. This is an elegant way mimes some have described as being designed to slow the pulse, not increase it.

The principle of simplicity extends to the act of running Rolls-Royce Ghost. The host of software engineering and complex technology under the surface are used to make driving easier and more enjoyable, not to interfere or be confused.

2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

Rolls-Royce Ghost is more focused on the driver and any car Rolls-Royce before. The driver sits in a slightly elevated position behind the wheel, described as the position of authority. This makes the outlook much clearer. The fascia was kept deliberately clear, it is spacious in design and has an intuitive interface. The controls are well modeled, the most important functions highlighted by chrome accents. The soft light in the lights of the dashboard through the steering wheel lined with black familiar, which in turn uses a set of keys for violin and control ergonomic roller ball.

The control center screen is hidden behind a veneer panel until their services are required. All features like satellite navigation, telephone, communication and entertainment are posted here and managed through a central rotary controller, flanked shortcut buttons on the front center console.

The driver assistance systems as an option and the Spirit Technology Rolls-Royce is known for its discretion and comfort. When the driver approaches the vehicle, the optional comfort access allows easy access, opening the door with the key is 1.5 meters and the chrome introduced fresh mango. Once you're in the car, voice control system allows you to select control menus without using the central controller.

In order to facilitate the maneuvers, the cameras around the car to serve several purposes. Behind the front of the cameras and the top can be combined to give the fish blind eye visible interface or provide a barrier to the recognition of images and the path to estimate the soil back and parking areas.

Discreetly placed in the network is a night vision camera. When activated, this security device works with pedestrian recognition to detect objects up to 300 meters and displayed on the central dashboard. Car control system receives the infrared images of the camera and taking into account the speed and direction of the vehicle, the class to assess the danger. It then determines the measures, if any, should be taken and if necessary a warning to the driver.

2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

In the HUD relay important information such as speed and navigation directions on the windshield directly in front of the driver. This information is only visible to the driver and can be customized to display only the required information, and in a suitable position for the driver.

Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver if the car begins to slide out of his lane. When activated, it uses an integrated camera, just in front of the mirror to monitor road markings and the position of the vehicle. The driver is warned by a subtle vibration through the steering wheel. If the driver uses the directional indicators before and after the shift, the wheel does not vibrate.

High support beam automatically manages the operation of low beam and high beam during night driving. When activated, the same device used by the Lane Departure Warning system monitors light sources on the front of the vehicle and automatically dips or raises the headlights accordingly. Adaptive directional headlights also improve the illumination of the road and adapt to road conditions, whether rain or fog, or simply the car is turning.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function to create a driving experience relaxing, especially on long cruises travel, because the activity is not required if the car ahead slows down or speeds up, despite stagnation. Active braking can also go down the hill to a curve at constant speed and the vehicle speed limiter communicates with the Dynamic Stability Control system reduces the vehicle speed in the curve and the safety and comfort can be compromised.

CONCEPT

In the fall of 2006, the Paris Motor Show: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that a new model was launched from the series. The new car will be producing and selling is a turn of the decade. Only other factors confirmed that the stadium was that it was less than the Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan, and priced at somewhere between € 200,000 and € 300 000 before taxes. Speculations on the style and specifications began almost immediately ...

Little was seen of the new car, known as RR4, until spring 2008, when Rolls-Royce released the first official sketches. The styling is instantly recognizable as a Rolls-Royce, although less traditional than previous models. At that time, Chief Designer, Ian Cameron, said "The RR4 has a more informal presence than the Phantom models with a focus on the conduct of design, this is expressed by its slightly smaller dimensions, but with powerful, proportions is a real and deliberate without compromise .. Rolls-Royce in every sense. "

As the results of the secret of development models on the road more, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, presented by Rolls-Royce 200EX, a pioneer in the testing of the Rolls-Royce Ghost at the Geneva Show in March 2009. An immediate success, carrying the Rolls-Royce 200EX design cues, but overall a convincing way. It 'was a clear intent.

That the design team has been sought to create a modern Rolls-Royce, which reached a new dynamism, but remained true to its heritage luxury. They found inspiration in modern furniture, architecture and yachts, but also in the spirit of the 1930s - the sense of adventure and try - as they tried to grasp the nature of this new car.

2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

"200EX is a modern implementation of the timeless elegance of the Rolls-Royce, violates some of the traditions of the regions, but to preserve the fundamental values that make the brand unique," says CEO Tom Purves. "We look forward to a more informal planning to extend the appeal of the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, attracting people who appreciate the sophistication of the merger, the new technology and modern style."

After the concert, 200EX began their world tour, during which more information on future production model became available. It would be powered by a new 6.6-liter V12 unique brand, which produces 563 horsepower and performance figures are phenomenal. This is an intelligent ride air suspension provides unparalleled ride and dynamics. It would be called the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

"Ghost is one of the most respected names in the automotive industry," said Tom Purves. "It conjures up images of adventure and technical innovation. The first cars bearing the name of ghost were not only known for the impressive reliability and refinement, but also a lot of style and style."

After a very positive reaction 200EX during the journey, very few changes were made to move production of Rolls-Royce Ghost - a tribute to the achievements of Ian Cameron and significant Helmut Riedl and design teams.

In September 2009, the new Rolls-Royce Ghost was officially launched in the world.

The design of the future

Elegant Rolls-Royce Ghost are dominated by a style of his yacht line "majestic. Great flow seamlessly between finely sculpted surfaces of the horizontal lines that give the definition. Overall, the level of the roof line upward sweeping and low-cut to create a powerful profile, almost as if the car was pushed back. powerful shoulders and sides strongly attract as they flow from the rear fender taillights, while details as an indication that chrome exhaust optional Rolls-Royce Ghost more dynamic.

While incorporating design elements of classic Rolls-Royce - a high arch, long hood, short front overhang, inclined pillars and sleek tail - Rolls-Royce Ghost informal aura. As centers for contemporary touch wheel self-adjusting xenon headlights and the elaboration of the latest evolution of the grid Rolls-Royce. Here are the parts of the contributions is curved inward, and leaves again in the opening. "We wanted this to be less reminiscent of the traditional style of the Parthenon and more like a stream of consumption," says Ian Cameron.

A satin finish silver contrast (introduced in the 200EX) is an option for the hood, grille and windshield. The finish is achieved through the establishment of the metallic silver paint on a layer of lacquer, giving a perfect matte finish.

The key principle is to provide simplicity to the complex executes all Rolls-Royce Phantom. Everything is designed, developed and designed to improve the training and experience driving, not complicate it.

2011 Rolls-Royce Ghost

Within Rolls-Royce Ghost, have the interior design team come with a modern feel while staying true to the tradition of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' quality materials and comfort. It is elegant, frosted lamps and chrome door handles, switches the heart of traditional fiddle and eyeball vents, frosted white rings and refined instrumentation. Deep-carpet may be supplemented by mats lambswool option for a truly luxurious feel.

Rolls-Royce Ghost came through the gates great. Located in the front doors are integrated Teflon umbrellas. The rear doors are traditional, rear-hinged coach doors opening to a generous 83 degrees. When the passenger is inside, the doors close at the touch of a button. The interior is bathed in natural light, enhanced by the optional panoramic sunroof that stretches from front to back.

Four-zone automatic climate control can be individually tailored to each passenger, with separate controls for front and rear. Automatic air recirculation, prevention and repair of condensation sun comes through the vents classic eyeball chrome-controlled shut-off piston.

In its doors wide Rolls-Royce Ghost and high shoulder line, the occupants feel comfortable, pampered and safe. The rear seat intimate lounge is enhanced by its position behind the C-pillar, increasing the feeling of intimacy. Screens can be adjusted independently of each other, and entertainment can also listen to most of the headphones separately. Six-disc multimedia changer, mounted in the glove box, installed as part of this option.

ENGINEERING REFERENCE

When considering a car Rolls-Royce, it is common to think of wood, leather and chrome, but the company has its roots in engineering. The refinement of the final product comes from the desire of its engineers to get the details correct. Long before the interior elements are prepared, experts are working to ensure that the chassis components, powertrain and body functioning in harmony fluid. It's a world where welding is an art and craft are at the nanoscale.

Rolls-Royce Ghost is built with steel monocoque body, which means that the separation of the frame and body. The advantage of this decline in construction while maintaining the outer dimensions of the interior. So, while Rolls-Royce Ghost is 400 mm shorter than the Phantom sedan general of the interior are comparable.

The plant was designed with the double front bulkhead and to isolate the interior of the engine noise. It 'made of steel sections and then wrapped in steel panels that are welded by hand. This allows almost seamless interface, which is then hand polished until it is perfect. Overall, the frame includes a Rolls-Royce Ghost 4.9 welding and seam welding, spot welding, and 6988. Bonnet and windscreen surround are finished in polished aluminum.

Rolls-Royce Ghost Walk on a bed of air. Double wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension work with an intelligent man, in every corner electronic air suspension to provide variable damping and refinement that has partnered with Rolls-Royce for more than 100 years.

The new air suspension, Rolls-Royce Ghost is so sensitive it can detect even the smallest changes. For example, the sensation of movement for a rear seat on one side the other seat, and replace accordingly. The complex computer system reads the inputs from various sensors around the car, the shocks just make the calculations of individual load every 2.5 milliseconds. This not only ensures perfect comfort, but also the precise control and the dynamics of the driver. The air suspension system also includes a lift and kneel before the service, by raising or lowering the Rolls-Royce Ghost 25 mm.

Ghost Rolls-Royce also has a complex set of electronic tools to keep and put on almost any surface. These include anti-roll stabilization, Dynamic Brake Control and Dynamic Stability Control including Dynamic Traction Control and Cornering Brake Control. These different technologies work together under a dual system of integrated management of the chassis, which means that even when exposed to a test of Rolls-Royce Ghost serious is perfectly clear. Handling and security systems work as one, imperceptible to the driver and passengers in order to maintain optimum contact with the road in all conditions.

"The challenge for us," said Planning Director Helmut Riedl, "was a prerequisite for maintaining levels of comfort while offering the most modern, interesting dynamic run-time, Rolls-Royce."

Rolls-Royce Ghost is powered by a brand new 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that is unique to this model. With direct injection, it produces 563bhp - enough to propel the Phantom Rolls-Royce from 0 to 60 km / h in just 4.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. With 780 Nm of torque at just 1500 rpm, the current offer immediate and very smooth.

Power is transmitted by an eight-speed shift-by-wire, ZF automatic. What this achieves a sense of infinite power surge, which is illustrated in the power reserve meter on the fascia, replacing the most common rev counter. The new engine delivers this performance while emitting only 317g/km of consumption is 20.8 mpg CO2.Fuel / 13.6 l/100 km.

Safety is always paramount, and the latest technologies used in Rolls-Royce Ghost. On the impact side in the front and rear doors combine with crumple zones at the rear to absorb shocks. Advanced Crash and Safety Management (ACSM) system takes steps 2000 times per second from sensors placed around the vehicle. CMHA use this information - in conjunction with the engine and chassis management systems - to assess the security features to include areas in case of accident. If necessary, the ACSM is activated - for example - belt tensioners and airbags all around the cabin, creating a security zone for all residents.

LEGENDARY Crafts

Rolls-Royce has a reputation for producing cars that go beyond the car. There is a magic added to the name, which comes partly from the exquisite attention to detail and quality materials used throughout.

Through 60 pairs of hands, the production process involves more than 2,000 individual operations and take at least 20 days to complete.

Rolls-Royce Ghost from the paint shop as a ghost and spent seven days of being painted and polished to perfection. Five steps are necessary for the body of Rolls-Royce Phantom. First, an electro-phosphate coating is applied to protect against corrosion, and a primer, a color layer, and finally two coats of clear varnish. The body is part of sand between your hands and after the last coat is applied, is hand polished for five hours.

Rolls-Royce Ghost is available in 12 exterior colors, each of which may be inconsistent with optional satin silver lid.

Leather is an absolute prerequisite impeccable inside a Rolls-Royce. For this reason, our leather comes from animals raised on pasture with no barbed wire, which ensures that there are fewer defects in the leather. All other trademarks are carefully avoided by our qualified laser cutters. At least eight skins used for the interior, and to ensure uniform colors, each skin is a supporter at the same time. The skins are drum dyed instead of painting, which ensures that the color penetrates through the leather. The process also means that the leather is much more flexible, preventing cracking or grinding noise and ensures durability and longevity. All seats and interior panels are made by hand using traditional techniques of furniture by the most skilled in their trade.

The natural beauty of plates Ghost Rolls-Royce is brought to life by the skills of dedicated craftsmen and women. Natural burrs and grains are selected for their complexity and interest: experts sheet to select only the best work of which these sections are very thin. Veneer of a tree is only used on any car. This not only ensures that the grain is in the interior, but every area of the ages and colors in the same proportion. Parts are machined and sanded by hand before being coated with five coats of lacquer for protection and a mirror shine.

2011 Rolls-Royce 102EX Electric Review

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is proud to present the Rolls-Royce 102EX, a machine, which is one of the most important initiatives in the company in recent years. It 'the first electric car battery for ultra-luxury segment, and continue the tradition of experimental model of cars passing generations.

Rolls-Royce produces cars that represents the pinnacle of luxury cars, the most demanding customers in the world. But the company also recognizes the need to look ahead and plan for sustainable growth over time. Investigated alternative powertrain options is an important step in this process.

With Rolls-Royce 102EX, also known as electric Phantom experimental (EE), the Company intends to carefully test the opinions and reactions to alternative power train options for a range of stakeholders, including owners, hobbyists, Members of the public and the media.

Throughout 2011 Phantom EE will act as a test of work that provides property, VIPs, media and fans the opportunity to discover an established alternative powertrain technology, and feedback about their experiences, thoughts and their concerns directly.

Bank's global research collected to run the program, which includes Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America are the alternatives for the decisive drive-train, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

There are no plans to build a production version of this car. Phantom EE role is as a test that is designed to explore the technologies BEV set to ask and answer questions.

Can the Phantom EE provide an acceptable range for clients without repetitive charging? It is the confidence in his ability to operate in extreme conditions? It will be the reliability and quality should be the expectations of the world's leading automotive brand?

Phantom EE also raises more fundamental questions: is a fully electric traction can provide an authentic experience of Rolls-Royce for customers, an experience that really suits the brand?

It's all-electric, or another option is the option for Rolls-Royce will become clearer when the test program is completed by the end of the year.

Rolls-Royce 102EX - EXPERIMENTAL PHANTOM ELECTRIC (EA)

Reinvention is part of the Phantom is a timeless and EE is the last line of experimental vehicles, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It is based on the legacy of 1919 and 1EX.

Experimental models used to test and evaluate new technologies and applications that can shape the future of Rolls-Royce products. Unlike a concept car, Rolls-Royce experimental models are still fully functional, drivable vehicles using concrete materials such as wood, leather and metal instead of clay and foam or other concepts.

They have engineers and designers took the opportunity for real innovation and not just to introduce new components and engineering, but also to evaluate them.

The last of this line of pilot projects have begun with a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a surprisingly modern and impeccably car proportions in the high-tech and labor-labor combine to produce something extraordinary.

EE ghost car is equipped with an innovative aluminum space frame, so important to the dynamic capabilities, and a sense of calm and tranquility to enjoy the passengers. However, naturally aspirated 6.75 liter V12 engine and six-speed gearbox was replaced by lithium battery and two electric motors mounted on the rear subframe. These engines are connected with a difference in speed integrated.

Each engine is rated at 145kW of power, when the ghost EE 290kW of maximum power and 800nm of torque available over a broadband connection. This is comparable to the standard with a pair of 338kW 720nm Phantom delivered to 3500 rpm.

Chemical nickel cobalt manganese battery contains about 230Wh/kg, high energy density that is important to achieve an acceptable level of re-payments. Pre-launch tests suggest the ghost EE should be running a range of up to 200 km. Wave stress torque, 0-60mph achieved in less than eight seconds (5.7 seconds, a standard phantom), with a top speed limited to 160kph.

This is the first application of the technology segment GKL + + (super-luxury car at a price of over € 200,000) and the battery is thought to be the largest ever installed in the car the road.

The valuation technique is an important part of the testing program. More fundamentally, however, a car to search for answers to questions about the Rolls-Royce owners, what their needs might be in the future into account various factors, such as area, performance and refueling infrastructure.

The feedback from customers - and interest groups, media and fans, through the website www.electricluxury.com - is indispensable to evaluate the appropriateness of the electric battery technology for Rolls-Royce.

This will help inform a decision on whether alternative propulsion technology all-electric or other type is more appropriate for best cars in the world of the future.

DESIGN

. "This is a credible concept perfectly complements the experimental nature of the car, exploring the options in the light, space and material use, if we changed the overall aesthetic, the concept has lost its credibility to assume that our audience was just a style. The reality is that exercise is an experimental vehicle in its proper sense, challenging perceptions, emotions and values -. propulsion technology and explore alternatives "- Ian Cameron, Chief Designer of Rolls -Royce Motor Cars.

102EX carries the characteristics of the famous Rolls-Royce Phantom, which is based, such as hand crafted, indicating good and iconic design cues such as the Pantheon, the grille and the Spirit of Ecstasy, which will celebrate its centenary in 2011. But at the heart of its design is the heart of the experimental vehicle to the location of this car in a test-bed, but subtly referring to the power station.

Design creates different aesthetics, and tested materials and interior finishes and lighting. These are framed around the functional aspects of the battery electric Rolls-Royce - as the car is likely to be used, and the changes technology brings in terms of detail inside and out. Of course, these changes will be implemented in a way that strengthens the credibility of the car, Rolls-Royce.

Chrome exterior ATLANTIC

Our designers were invited to create a finish Phantom EE, which immediately resulted in a passenger car which separates it from standard Phantom models without many obvious design changes. Not an easy task since all Phantom models are special - with customers enjoy a range of options for custom paint to run to some 45,000 colors.

Extensive investigations revealed, however, the reflective coating of ceramic nanoparticles. Under the microscope, they mimic the look of silver metal, but between 8000 and 80,000 times smaller than the thickness of your hair, or 1,000 times smaller than the size of a normal metal particle.

The specimens were produced and the design team were impressed with the results, knowing that addresses the most, the better. But they had no illusions about the task at hand.

All four layers of paint were needed pm, four Atlantic Chrome, and many hours of time spent to ensure a perfect finish. The finish is amazing. EE ghost commands at a point where almost chiseled taut lines give the impression of a car wet. It grows only in the nature of light to change.

SPIRIT NIGHT ecstasy

And the launch of Rolls-Royce 102EX, 2011 marks another milestone in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. On February 6, 1911 was designed to Charles Sykes Spirit of Ecstasy registered for the first time, marking the beginning of a period of 100 years when this famous icon has graced the prow of a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts of the famous, the clouds and the shadows of 20th century hand-built models and now Phantom Ghost.

EA ecstasy Phantom Spirit is at the top of the grill above the red double-R emblem is applied to the EX. Makrolon, instead of stainless steel, will be bathed in blue LED light, in reference to electrical technology under the hood. This stunning graphic full speech - www.electricluxury.com - when Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will broaden the debate on the issue of the online community of luxury electric views of fans, media and members of the public.

Internal details

Atlantic chrome dashboard sounds echo the exterior color, which gives a sense of inside-outside balance and maintain their analog monitors timeless architecture, each domestic orders Phantom.

Other changes refer to the design more scalable automotive use. For example, some slices are subtly altered to provide information needed by the driver of an electric vehicle. The fuel gauge in particular, has been replaced by an elegant battery indicator.

One of the most pleasant of all the interiors of Rolls-Royce Phantom is the power reserve dial next to the speedometer. This shows how the power of the V12 is available for a conductor. Phantom EA takes this concept a step further.

In a symbol of renewal, which is played at 100% of the normal line of the standard Phantom. Depending on the momentum gathered, it conveys the degree of charging occurs when the vehicle is in motion.

POINT recharge

Re-download the plug was taken, and five poles, which takes place normal mechanism of the fuel filler cap Phantom. The standard fuel was replaced by a clear designer, logo and RR 102EX topic. Rear window frames, tri-color LED status causing car charging.

To start, the socket is awash in blue light. This will begin to flash when the download begins. When fully charged, the screen turns green, then green flashes as the solenoid is switched off. System faults can be marked with a continuous light or flashing red.

Charging can be stopped by a switch located next to the connector. The process can also be exploited in the car using the controls available in the center console, for example, when charging by induction takes place.

Center console DETAIL

A key identifier for Phantom EE is the design of the center console for loading and display located under the center armrest. A simple switch allows you to start and stop charging while the screen itself has a sheet of light with a picture of a battery, illuminated by LEDs.

Reflects the lights used at the point of external load, this picture changes color depending on the state of charge of the car. A watch battery blue illuminated the vehicle is not standard on the pulse while the blue indicates that the inductive charging process takes place. Green indicates a fully charged battery, while the engineers in red message of a possible defect in the system.

LEATHER CORINOVA

"At Rolls-Royce, we are proud to build an authentic and natural product to customers whose quality is incomparable. Corinova Seton is a vegetable tanned leather experiment, which allows us to celebrate more bends, folds. And other features that are part of the life of the animal is a more pleasant that extends our understanding of the expectations of internal reactions Rolls-Royce Owner will prove fascinating race "-.. Andrew Chan Mona, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Managing Director, Leathershop.

Plywood interior Phantom current owners with single grain, patterns and details to add weight to the fact that each model leaving Goodwood is as unique as the fingerprint of its owner. Phantom EA takes this concept a step further.

The skin is the natural process of vegetable tanning crosses were Corinova. This gives rise to the machine, adding a definition of the seats, the floor, and arms.

Most of the leather product for automotive applications is chrome tanned. This is an important element that helps to stabilize the animal skins and transfer of collagen fibers of leather. The process of a barrel of dye used to color leather interior Phantom gives a rich, uniform pigmentation, while retaining the natural softness.

Experimental skin Corinova stands to be completely without chromium. It starts with the preparation of Glutardialehyde prepare for your tan. Chestnut extract, which lasts from southern and Tara Tara Bush crushed powdered fruit in South America used a drum-spun color. Fruits harvested without harming the plant and the finished product is a combination of organic binders, and high-tech polymers.

The process is suitable only for certain colors of the earth - in the case of EE-brown ghost Quebracho Brown to seat covers and other areas, such as floor and wall of the trunk, both of which are made of durable leather.

And the aesthetic differences, Corinova leather has a number of practical advantages. It uses less paint finish as standard in chrome-tanned leather and generates less waste. Denied the use of refined gasoline products and further develop, it may be possible to use recycled leather Corinova in agriculture in order to aerate the soil.

Rolls-Royce, fully expects to challenge perceptions and first impressions undoubtedly closely the issue of the characteristics that define the lives of animals are clearly visible in areas such as seats and armrests, as the Phantom in domestic production. Change in high-end leather applied to the Phantom can mean a compromise for some owners, but others may be the hallmarks of the Welcome section of the individual models Rolls-Royce Phantom more and more.

In addition to reaching the feedback from the owner, skin tested for its durability and performance for several months on tour.

Upholstery panels

Interior Phantom is the EE differs from traditional wooden sets that define most of the cars delivered to customers, providing a single end of the car. It has a distinctive interior with aluminum foil cards that raises environmental contrasts dramatically darker than the interior in natural leather. As is the case Corinova skin, the goal is to challenge traditional perceptions can be a Rolls-Royce design system.

BATTERY

Phantom EE suspected of having the car battery the largest in the world. Peak current 850A, 338V DC powered. The total capacity is 71kWh.

The pack is composed of cells of large pools of NCM. NCM (lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese oxide) is a variant of the lithium-ion chemistry that has a special energy and high power density.

The Phantom of five houses EE battery cell modules, a module of 38 cells, a module of 36 cells, and three smaller ones willing to ten, eight and four different orientations in a unit of irregular shape. It seems that the general shape of the original engine and gearbox.

Each of the 96 cells were individually tested before assembly into modules to determine their characteristics and abilities. Sub-components have been tested under load to verify that the electrical connections between each cell within specification.

The electronic detection for each group of cells was tested and calibrated before installation and commissioning through a rigorous regime of temperature cycling designed to induce failure of weak components. The electronic box that contains the main equipment clutch and steering are tested in isolation from other components to verify proper operation.

Three separate charger units (3kW each) are mounted on the battery, which can load in one step (20 hours) or three (8:00) for a passenger car is unique. A fourth induction charger is also equipped to allow wireless technology will be tested in load Phantom EE.

The battery can be expected to last more than three years, it was possible to use every day. Part of the program will test this hypothesis in a real environment and provide a more robust response to the question about the battery life.

Induction charging

Concerns about the lack of availability of recharging infrastructure in cities are well documented and critical electric motor for additional discomfort behind the cables between power supply and vehicles.

Present owners of Rolls-Royce with a vision of a possible solution to these problems is the EA Phantom test a technology called charging by induction. This helps to recharge the battery to take place without any physical connection, it offers more comfort for owners and hinted at the possibility of a network of loading facilities.

There are two main elements to support induction, a transfer buffer because it provides power to a power source and a buffer induction in the car assembled in the U.S. battery Phantom. Power spectrum is magnetically coupled through the energy transfer pads.

The system is about 90 percent effective when measured from AC to battery and is tolerant to misalignment of parking. For example, it is necessary to align the phantom transceiver and inserts for loading to take place exactly. While the pads are capable of transmitting power over gaps of up to 400 mm, for Phantom EE, the separation is in the region of 150 mm.

The coupling circuit is set by adding capacitors. Pick-up coils in the pavement receiver is magnetically coupled to the primary coil. Power transmission is achieved by optimizing the coil pick-up for the operating frequency of the primary coil with a series or a capacitor in parallel.

Pick-up controller is an essential part of the technology, because it takes power from the keyboard of the receiver and provides a controlled exit for the batteries. It is committed to providing an output that is independent of the load and the separation between the pads. Without a controller, increasing the tension falls away and the load current increases.

The transmitter pad is designed to protect magnetic fields to prevent the escape EMI for spectators, and the system works well within internationally recognized borders.

Electric cars and the founders of Rolls-Royce

Charles Rolls, Henry Royce, Claude Johnson, and their share of e-revolution, the creation of internal combustion engine as empty as the dominant vehicle technology.

Royce has developed a career as an electrical engineer first professional production car.

His company FH Royce and Co., which began selling light and simple set wrong in the 1890s, became rich through the design and delivery of dynamos, electric motors and industrial cranes. Royce numerous innovations include the patent for the bayonet, a concept that continues today.

One of the customers were Royce Pritchett and Gold, a company based in Feltham, Middlesex. And manufacture of batteries, they had developed a two-seater electric car, at least one of which was powered by an electric motor Royce.

The Honorable Charles Rolls has also played with the electric car in the years before the two men met. Had negotiated the rights to sell a power outage, the CS Rolls and Co, in Conduit Street, London, which recently established the exclusive rights to sell Rolls-Royce models.

It is likely that this car was part of the city and suburban electric car project, a joint venture between two men, Paris Singer, a man named Claude Johnson. The project had a short life span and Johnson left to join the Rolls rapidly growing company, the last time to take the role of CEO of Rolls-Royce. He became known as "the hyphen in Rolls-Royce", with a central role in its success.

Charles Rolls was recorded describing the merits of the electric drivetrain - and it raises concern about premonitory range and recharge. In his view, a model named Columbia as the best in class, commenting on the Automotive Journal:

"They are completely silent and clean, no odor or vibration, and should be very useful for use when city fixed charging stations can be arranged, but the farmer I do not expect that they will be very useful -.. at least not for many years to come. "

Later, when the first gasoline exports Rolls-Royce models were manufactured in the United States, some authorities have refused to believe that they are electric, almost legendary thanks to its quiet operation.

In the 21 century the silence remains a key signature for Rolls-Royce. Other characteristics of all electric drive-train also refers to the famous Rolls-Royce properties. Power at low speed is an example.

Thank you to improvements in battery technology, it is possible that the maintenance, Rolls and more than a century ago, is now sufficiently developed to re-visit all the electric cars as a possibility.
